Mizoram Rural Bank, established on 27th September 1983 under the Regional Rural Bank Act 1976 is perhaps the only RRB in the country having a spread in all the districts and blocks of a state. It covers 11 districts and 26 RD blocks including 1 urban and 11 semi urban centers. The entire state population is 10.91 lakhs as per 2011 census and the area is 21081 sq.km. About 66% of the state is covered by forests and the mainstay of occupation is agriculture. Mizoram became a State as late as in 1986 yet its literacy percentage is 91.58 %, the second highest in the country.
